log sliced swing seat and rope is the original tree swing

Even though outdoor play areas have gotten elaborate, kids still love the most basic piece of equipment—the swing. Oscillating like a pendulum while suspended above ground has given kids hours of enjoyment for generations. All it took was a tree, a rope, and a plank or log slice…..but that has evolved to into some really unique outdoor swing seats.

Found items recycled, whimsical kid inspired designs, hand-carved wood or molded metal when attached to dangling ropes can put a smile on any kids’ face! Look at these and you ‘ll see what I mean about unique…..

Find a skateboard that has lost its rider or just lost the wheels, paint it, attach to ropes, and you have a swing seat. Sit or stand…..back and forth or side-to-side, your choice.

Simple seats but something you can’t find in a store….rounds painted in fun colors kids love.

Doesn’t really matter if it’s a unique seat or simple plank, kids can enjoy fresh air during any season of the year if you provide them a rope, a tree, and a yard….then they can enjoy the essence of swinging just like Robert Louis Stevenson said in his poem…..

The Swing

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside–

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown–
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!
