Family Room Design Essentials post covered, well….the essentials, including a quick paragraph on furniture used for storage. Another post in the Family Room Design Series covered appropriate storage for kids’ media. This post….a few more storage ideas for family rooms that top them all!
Line the walls with open cube storage created from built-ins or modular units with stabilizing baseboard added and counter top to connect. Use any type storage container that works with both your room style and family needs or just leave it open. (Hint: containers are the best idea for open storage to avoid a cluttered look….unless your kids are exceptionally neat!)
Rolling storage with drawers can be used anywhere in the room….and stored anywhere in the room. Drawers that pull from both sides are good for easy access…..unless you need to avoid a tug-of-war between kids.

Need to divide the room? Try adding a low-height built-in unit with open shelves on both sides or a shelf-cabinet combination. Top of the unit adds one more place for display, games or storage.

The ultimate family room storage...drawers, doors, and shelves, plus my favorite, hide the TV when it's off.

Cut multiple niches into the wall for shelves above for display and cabinets below for hiding stuff....a little rustic and very warm style for a family room.
