Google. Often found attached to ‘earth’, ‘reader’, and ‘it’. Even your kids know how to use ‘it’ to find stuff they need to know.
Google Offices. Have you seen photos of the Google headquarters in Zurich? Their office is designed to be “comfortably inspiring” to boost effectiveness of employees.
Ok, but what does this have to do with a kids’ room blog?
Of all the corporate offices I have seen, Google’s offices look like a kid’s dream playroom with indoor slides, fireman’s pole, ski lift cabs, and funky seating like the bathtub full of sponges in the lounge or row boat tipped on its side, full of cushions.
While I don’t think parents need to go over the top in their kids’ rooms or playrooms, the idea behind Google’s office design is what intrigues me. They understand that environment does influence productivity and ingenuity.
Think about how this can be done at home and follow Google’s design lead to boost your kids’ creativity. Add a little whimsy and color along with unique and unusual furniture. Make the kids’ rooms or at least the family gathering spot a FUN place to be, and then see how their minds expand with possibilities.
Here’s a link to the Freshome post about Google’s Zurich office. You have to see the rest of the office!!
